Why use this PDF to Text?

  • Clear page markers. Every page gets tagged so its source stays easy to trace.
  • Copy it or save it. The extracted text is ready to use right away or save as a .txt file.
  • Private by design. Your document's content gets processed locally, never uploaded.

How to extract text from a PDF

  1. Upload your PDF.
  2. Wait for the extraction to finish.
  3. Copy or download the extracted text.

When you need this tool

A PDF report's content needs quoting or reworking into a new document without retyping it from scratch.

A long contract or paper needs extracting so it can go into another text tool, like Word Counter or Text Compare.

Frequently asked questions

Can text be extracted from a scanned (image) PDF?+

Not yet. This tool reads text that already exists digitally inside the PDF, not text recognized from an image (OCR). A scanned PDF with no text layer produces empty output.

Does the original layout, like tables or columns, carry over?+

Not fully. Text gets extracted in reading order by position on the page, so complex tables or columns can look jumbled in the plain text result.

Why does this need an internet connection if it's private?+

The connection only loads the PDF-reading library's code, not your data. Your PDF's content still gets processed locally in your browser and never gets sent to any server.

Can a password-protected PDF be extracted?+

Not yet. Remove the password from a protected PDF before processing it here.
